Welcome to the 2010 OSEP Leadership Mega Conference!

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) will host the 2010 OSEP Leadership Mega Conference on August 2-5, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. The theme for this year's conference is Collaboration to Achieve Success from Cradle to Career.

This new conference is a union of the three previously OSEP-sponsored conferences – the National Parent Center Conference, the National Early Childhood Conference, and the OSEP Leadership Conference.

The conference has several pre-sessions and is composed of four strands:

 The Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs), the Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs), parents, and educators who work with families will participate in sessions that address topics such as: collaborating with State agencies, technology and accessibility, transition, disproportionality, mental health, reaching underserved parents, and center management issues.

The Early Childhood strand will provide critical information for the administration and implementation of State Part C and 619 Programs for infants, toddlers and children with disabilities and their families. The topics to be discussed include: an update on the Part C regulations, the status of child and family outcomes, the best practices for young children with autism, and a list of strategies for meaningful family engagement and collaborative planning for State early learning systems. The Monday morning agenda will be shared with Strand 1 (Parents) participants.

 Collaborative Leadership is an important component of our work. All three conference strands will meet together for sessions that will include: a keynote address by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and a cross-departmental panel presentation by several Assistant Secretaries and other distinguished leaders from the Department. There will also be sessions on other important topics such as: the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, Part B to C transition, the National Education Technology Plan, Longitudinal Data Systems, and Universal Design for Learning.

State Directors of Special Education will participate in informative sessions that address topics such as: college-and career-ready standards; collaboration between the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) and the business community to expand employment opportunities for students with disabilities; English learners with disabilities; and the Higher Education Opportunity Act.
