Creating Effective Collaborative Transition Models for Youth through Business and Community Partnerships (S4 – 200b)
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) are conducting a research study looking at students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) participating in school based vocational training versus community based (Project Search) vocational training. This is a collaborative effort between VCU, Virginia DRS, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, and Henrico County Public Schools. DRS Staff Project Coordinator and Business Liaison will share the collaboration that occurred to ensure a successful program. Discussion will include relationship building in the community and the business, selection of students, internship activities, and lessons learned to make year two even better. Youth participants will share their perspective on the values of the project search model community-based training.

 Accessing and Succeeding in Higher Education: Opportunities for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
